Western Dubuque has posted 5-8 instrumental music at Drexler Middle School. Applications are being accepted through our website. They were going to eliminate my postition by getting rid of 5th grade band, but we managed to save it, thanks to our parents, Mike Omarzu and Tony Butterworth.

In Search of music...

David Pepin at Oelwein is looking for a piece called "Duty, Honor, Country" by Harold L. Waters.

Five Seasons Middle School Honor Band Festival
                                     Saturday, May 1, 2010

Dear Colleague:

We would like to invite you and your students to participate in the 2010 Five Seasons Middle School Honor Band Festival. The Honor Band has been in existence since 1990 and has grown into a very well attended and prestigious event. Nearly 400 students in three bands (6th Grade, 7th Grade, and 8th Grade) receive a positive educational experience through experienced guest conductors and master classes taught by qualified musicians. Our main goal is to provide a quality educational and motivational experience for middle school musicians.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS:
Go to the following link: http://kenn.cr.k12.ia.us/activities/KennBand/Forms/Registration2.asp to find the Nomination Form and a Director's Information Sheet. Please fill in all of the information on the Nomination Form as requested, making sure to fill out a form for each student, and then rank each student on the Director's Information Sheet. Your first nomination for each grade level will automatically be chosen.  Application materials must be submitted by Wednesday, March 24.  Once the bands have been selected, you will receive the personnel list along with a schedule of the day and information concerning meals and the registration process.  This information will also be given to your students in their music packet.

CHAIR AUDITIONS:
All auditions for chair placement within sections for the 8th Grade and 7th Grade Bands will be over music only; there will be NO SCALES requested. Members of the 6th Grade Band will be seated alphabetically.

MASTERCLASSES:
In addition to the educational opportunities gained through the honor band rehearsals, we have set aside time for master classes. Students will participate in a session, with an educator, specific to their instrument.

MEALS:
Our band boosters will serve meals and concessions at the breaks. The meals are included in the registration fee of $25.00 per student.  This fee is paid after the students are selected.

MUSIC:
The guest conductor will choose the program for each ensemble. Music will be sent to you in advance so that you may help your students prepare to the best of their ability.  This year, our guest conductors are Jeff Shafer, Doreen Anderson and Pam Houser.

CONCERT:

All three bands will perform in the JFK Auditorium.  The 6th grade band performance will begin at 6:00pm.  The 7th grade band performance will begin at 6:30pm and the 8th grade band performance will begin at 7:00pm.

If there are any questions regarding any aspect of the Honor Band, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are very pleased to have you and your students participate in our Twenty First Annual Five Seasons Middle School Honor Band. We will do everything possible to make the day enjoyable, educational, and beneficial.

Sincerely,
